Dear Schofield Families and Caregivers,

The school year seems to be flying by and it is hard to believe it is already February!  February marks the start of Black History Month.  At Schofield, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that values the rich and diverse cultures and backgrounds that make our school community special.  While this is a priority throughout the school year, Black History Month provides us with an important reminder to reflect on our practice and acknowledge the achievements, struggles and resilience of individuals who have made such an impact on our world.  Mrs. Zimmer shares books with staff throughout the year to help students see themselves and others in the books they read.  To honor the beginning of Black History Month, she shared some of the following titles that I thought I would pass along to families.

On February 10th, we welcome the year of the Dragon. Each year at Schofield, our kindergarteners participate in a Lunar New Year parade around the school. Mrs. Zimmer also shared the following book titles and several articles with teachers.  This one found on the PebbleGo site includes a video of a celebration in Hong Kong.  Thanks Mrs. Zimmer!

Share the Love!
Mark your calendar and update your grocery list!  Schofield is hosting a food drive for the Wellesley Food Pantry in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Let’s share the love and show our community how much we care!  In February, students are invited to bring in donations from the pantry’s wish list of most needed items. Our school-wide goal is to collect 340 items (20 from each classroom) for the pantry.

  • Lentil, pea & bean soups
  • Canned red beans and white beans
  • Canned tuna
  • Dinty Moore beef stew

Panorama Survey:
Today, Wellesley Public Schools is sending each WPS family the Panorama Family Survey, which will help us gain insight into how to best serve students and partner with families. We are committed to providing high quality learning that meets the needs of our students. Your feedback is valued and appreciated.

In the email you receive, you will find a link and an access code to use.  The survey takes only about fifteen minutes to complete and participation is optional. If you have questions about the survey, please do not hesitate to contact me at hoffmanj@wellesleyps.org.

It will be a short yet busy month here at Schofield!  I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
