Dear Colleagues,

I hope your first week back from the April vacation was a good one. The beautiful spring weather we’ve had has been wonderful as we enter the final leg of the school year.

I want to acknowledge the passing of Pope Francis last week.  Regardless of one’s religious affiliation, Pope Francis was recognized for the humility and humanity he exemplified during his tenure, which we could surely use more of in our world leaders today.

I also want to note the important literacy work that has been ongoing in our district this year, led by our Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Sandy Trach, and PreK-5 Department Head for ELA, Jenn Friedman.  Between the Steering Committee and Working Groups, a number of our district educators have been carefully evaluating literacy curricula, including our current programs, to assess their efficacy.  You can watch the end-of-year presentation of this work to the School Committee from this past Tuesday night for more details.

Finally, I also want to give a shout-out to our Performing Arts Department for the terrific spring choral concert last night.  Our students have incredible talent, and thanks to the work of Kevin McDonald and Chad Weirick, everyone in attendance was treated to an extraordinary evening of music.  Check out the Performing Arts webpage for the dates of a number of spring concerts coming up in the weeks ahead.

I hope you each have a great weekend and thank you for what you do in support of our students across the district!

Best, David
