WPS Air Conditioning Project

Air conditioning is planned for each of the four schools that do not have centralized AC: Wellesley Middle School and Bates, Fiske, and Schofield elementary schools. The School Committee’s goal is to provide air conditioning in these four buildings in the most cost-efficient manner while ensuring conditions that best support teaching and learning during the hottest periods of the school year. Funding for a feasibility study for this project was approved by Annual Town Meeting in April 2025. Following small-scale classroom pilot installations that outperformed expectations, the School Committee voted unanimously in May 2026 to support a plan that would upgrade electrical systems and utilize window units in classrooms and libraries. Read the study report.
