Dear Colleagues,

I hope you each had a productive week across the district.  The news of the PowerSchool data breach affecting thousands of school districts across the nation was extremely concerning.  We need to have full confidence in the security of such a core system to our operations and that was certainly shaken by this breach.  I suppose no system is absolutely foolproof, and in this digital age when threat actors have become more sophisticated in their work, we need to be equally adept in our security measures.  Please know that we will continue to monitor this situation and take any necessary additional actions to protect our district’s data.

This week, our nation also mourned the loss of our 39th President, Jimmy Carter.  An indelible memory from my childhood was when my family was visiting Washington and President Carter waived to us as his motorcade passed.  At a time when there is so much cynicism in our national discourse and a continued erosion of faith in the institutions of government, President Carter offered an example of humility, dignity and character.  His advocacy for peace and human rights framed much of his presidency and post-presidency, along with a visible commitment to service, which inspired many.  Few people live such a consequential life and I hope the memories and tributes of President Carter’s life may serve as an inspiration to the next generation of leaders of our country.

Thank you for your work in service to our students each day, and I hope you enjoy the weekend!

With appreciation,

David
