The current contract states that at the secondary level, all teachers should be available after their last scheduled class to meet with students who request help. The School Committee has requested that classroom teachers offer and post in advance a time when they will be available to students for 35 minutes at least one day per week for extra help. Many educators already do this, but the School Committee would like to see this practice offered consistently throughout the middle and high schools in order to best benefit students, especially those who may be reticent to ask for help.
At the high school, office hours would run for 35 minutes either before or after the contractual day, and at the middle school, from 2:40 p.m.-3:15 p.m.
