As the WHS varsity football team prepares for the 136th Thanksgiving meeting with Needham High School, Wellesley Public Schools would like to update the community on the progress of Phase II enhancements to the Hunnewell Track & Field Project.
Following a public bidding process, on November 21 the Board of Public Works awarded to Ernest Guigli & Sons a contract for the next phase of work at the Track & Field. The firm will install lights, a new sound system, and the foundation for new modular bathrooms and a bathroom/concession building.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to break ground before the end of 2023, with completion of Phase II-A (lights, new sound system, bathrooms and new concession stand) expected by summer 2024. The contracts to purchase the structures and lighting will be awarded in the coming weeks. Efforts continue on Phase II-B, which will focus on new team rooms.
This work is being made possible in partnership with the Natural Resources Commission, the Board of Public Works, as well as the Department of Public Works; and with the generous support of the Community Preservation Committee, Wellesley Town Meeting, and hundreds of individual donors as well as businesses and town organizations who have contributed to the project through the Wellesley Field Fund.
