Dear Colleagues,
I hope you each had a productive week. On Thursday, we were excited to launch a Superintendent’s Task Force that will be examining future preschool options for Wellesley. We have clearly grown beyond the capacity of our current PAWS building and have been hosting satellite classes across the district for many years now. Before we make an investment in a new facility, we must first determine the scope of the program we wish to support. Should we replicate our current program at a larger scale or is there an interest (and resources) to support something closer to universal preschool? Over the course of the next year this Task Force will examine options, engage with our community, and ultimately make a recommendation to the School Committee approximately a year from now on a proposed path forward. I look forward to this strategic conversation and want to thank our staff and community members who are participating in this important work.
I also want to extend an invitation to our staff to receive a preview of our proposed FY25 Budget on Monday, December 11th at 3:30pm in the WMS auditorium. We will be presenting this recommended budget to the School Committee on Tuesday evening at their televised meeting.
Finally, I appreciate the invites that staff members have been sharing with me to come and visit their classes this year and I want to continue to encourage members of our team to reach out with similar requests. I’d also like to take this one step further and extend an open-ended request for me to shadow you for an entire school day. This will not only allow me to see your good work in action, but provide more space for conversation during which you can share more details of your practice as well as suggestions on how our district can better support your work. Human Relation Services
The Human Relation Services (HRS) can help. Wellesley Public Schools has contracted with HRS to provide up to ten free counseling visits for you and/or your family members. This program is designed to help you deal with stresses of life and work –including personal and family issues, drug or alcohol problems, and job related tension. It offers prevention and intervention to reduce these stresses and improve coping skills.
HRS is located at 11 Chapel Place in Wellesley and can be reached at 781-235-4950. This is a confidential service. Wellesley Public Schools is not aware of the names of employees or their family members who utilize this service.
