Dear Colleagues,

I hope you each had a productive week. This week, I had the chance to attend the WHS Evolutions Spring Expo on Tuesday night and see the capstone projects of our students. They were truly impressive on many fronts.  First, students chose topics that were relevant to them.  This ranged from an effort to support homeless veterans, analyzing the impact of U.S. Department of Education cuts on first generation, college-bound students, creating healthy snack bars, and even the construction of a bass boat for fishing.  While the topics were diverse, what was consistent was the obvious deep learning of our students, their ownership of their work, and their ability to enthusiastically engage in thoughtful conversations with the many participants who stopped by each station.  So many wonderful elements of student agency were on full display and I’m grateful to our Evolutions educators who provide this innovative learning space for our students.

Speaking of capstones, today is our WHS graduation and 329 seniors will be accepting their hard-earned diplomas.   I’m so proud of our graduates and equally proud of the team of educators who have supported these young people along their path to our stage tonight.  Take a well-deserved bow, WPS, on a job well done!  Have a great weekend everyone!

Best, David
