Relocation Statement Regarding Accessibility of the Wellesley Public Schools’ Facilities
The Wellesley Public Schools, recognizing a need to ensure its school facilities are accessible to individuals with disabilities, hereby states as follows:
All programs, activities, and services in school facilities are available, without discrimination, to individuals with disabilities as defined by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and/or Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1992. The Wellesley Public Schools will use its best efforts to make reasonable modifications in programs, activities, and services when the modifications are necessary to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability, unless it is clearly established that making the modifications would fundamentally alter the nature of the program, activity, or service, and in that case all such program, activity, or service will be relocated and reassigned as follows:
If a program, activity, or service is scheduled to be held in an inaccessible location, the District will provide notice, including on its website and any publicity regarding the program, activity, or service, about its lack of accessibility and how to request accommodations.
If full accessibility is needed by a person or persons to attend a program, activity, or service, a relocation request should be made as early as possible, preferably at least two weeks prior to the program, activity, or service. This notice should be made to Assistant Superintendent, Cynthia Mahr (cmahr@wellesleyma.gov; 40 Kingsbury Street, Wellesley, MA 02481; 781-446-6210, ext. 5611) requesting relocation so that alternate space can be found. Notice may be given in writing by hand delivery, mail, or email.
If the Assistant Superintendent receives a request more than two weeks prior to the program, activity, or service, Wellesley Public Schools will make every effort to move the program, activity, or service to another location that is accessible for all. If no such space is available, the program, activity, or service will be re-scheduled to such a time that a fully accessible location is available.
If the Assistant Superintendent receives a request less than two weeks prior to a program, activity, or service, Wellesley Public Schools will make every effort to move the program, activity, or service to another location.
