Dear Colleagues,

I hope everyone is settling into the school year.  For the next several weeks, our schools will be hosting their annual Back-to-School nights.  Each year, I shed my superintendent’s hat and attend these nights as a parent.  And each year, I am reminded that for parents sitting in classrooms, our district is no larger than the teachers who are standing in front of them, introducing themselves and describing the work of the year.  Naturally, the technical aspects of teaching and learning are critical to what it is we do each day, but on these evenings, I believe what is most important to our parents is their hope to meet enthusiastic and caring educators who have a passion for their craft and who will challenge and inspire their children.  On these nights, I believe our parents will likely remember very little of what is said, but they will remember how we have made them feel.  As a WPS parent who has attended many of these nights across several of our schools, I have yet to feel anything but gratitude for the work of our educators.

Thank you to everyone for representing the work of our district and our profession so well on these special evenings.  Have a great weekend.

Best regards,

David Lussier
