Dear Colleagues,

I hope you each had a productive week.  The state MCAS results for 2023 were released this week, with each of our WPS schools meeting or exceeding achievement targets set by the state.  Four of our schools (Bates, Sprague, WMS, and WHS) were also identified as “Schools of Recognition.”  Taken together, these results continue to affirm your efforts and the thoughtful approach to teaching and learning occurring throughout the district.  And while we celebrate these positive results, we also know there is still critical work to be done to close opportunity gaps and ensure that our success is measured by the progress of ALL students.  We’ll be presenting a more comprehensive analysis of our district-wide MCAS result to the School Committee on Oct. 17th.  In the meantime, please review your respective school’s data for further insights into our progress and the work that remains.

As a reminder, Monday, September 25th is Yom Kippur, which we observe as a student holiday on our calendar.

Thanks for all that you do to support our students and families.  Have a great weekend!

Best, David
