Colleagues,

Imagine receiving notice that there has been an accident in front of one of our schools that has resulted in hazardous waste leaking onto the street creating a chemical cloud that is rapidly spreading with the wind. Along with a large group of Town leaders and first responders, I had the chance this week to participate in a half-day exercise in which we worked through this challenging crisis management scenario. What stood out to me is the incredible group of colleagues we have across many Town departments who would be called upon to collaborate in an emergency such as the one presented to us. I can tell you that, without a doubt, we would be in very good hands!

Now that school has started, I know that many of our schools have begun to host their Back-to-School nights. While we often worry about the conditions of our classrooms and/or our program descriptions on these evenings, I remain convinced that perhaps the most important take-away for our parents is a confirmation that there is a caring, competent teacher in the classroom who will get to know their child and support his/her success. Judging by the reviews I so often hear from our parents, this is most often how they feel when they leave our schools. Thank you for helping to reinforce this message and maintaining the remarkable level of confidence that our community has in the success of the Wellesley Public Schools.

Have a great weekend!

Best regards,

David
