Dear Colleagues,

I hope you each had a productive week. In collaboration with the Wellesley Education Foundation, this week we hosted the “Chair Ceremony” at Wellesley College to honor our colleagues who have completed 25 years of service to the district.  Our honorees included Darcie Ayer, Margaret Flitsch, Ellen Banthin, Jamie Chisum, Ann Cole, Nina Kahn, Michael Krieger, Karen Poole, Valerie Spruill, and J.J. Kelleher.  Each of our honorees was introduced by a colleague of their choosing and the tributes were both hilarious and moving.  Please join me in congratulating this year’s honorees! (Please use this link to read a bio on each honoree.)

I also want to share the exciting news that for the fourth year in a row, WPS has earned the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International. While our budget is the work of many hands each year, Cindy Mahr, our Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, deserves our thanks for her leadership and skill throughout this budget development process. Congratulations to Cindy and our colleagues in the Business office on this well-deserved recognition!

Last night, we held our annual METCO awards event, with students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels receiving recognition for their academic and leadership accomplishments.  In particular, I want to offer congratulations to our graduating seniors from the METCO program:

Karine Alves | Chandu Christopher | Sincere Fontaine

Sarai Jackson-Pilet | Immanuel Kelly | Angel Matthews

Dayshaun Moore | Dyllan Moore | Bernine Nicolas

Victoria Sanchez | Real Tse-Adams | Tomi Withers

Finally, as we enter the Memorial Day Weekend, please keep the men and women who lost their lives in service of our country in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for what you each do in support of our students and have a great weekend everyone!

Best, David
